What They Are and How They Can Effect a Society...

Nearly Every 22 minutes at least 1 person in the world has been killed or maimed due to a land mine related incident.  

This in fact has been no surprise due to the amount of Land mine Causalities and incidents per year.   According to the United Nations land mine Fact sheet, the estimated number of maims and deaths per year have resulted in it's large number of 15,000 to 20,000 land mine causalities per year.   Nearly 50 percent of  these land mine causalities have resulted in the death of children and adolescents.    The occurrences of these numbers of deaths and maims per year of children have resulted due to the land mines hidden in obstacles in which children are most likely to come by such as rural areas in which they may traverse while coming to school or playing.    Often in these countries with a vast number of land mines, have  children in which have survived this landline incident often suffer dramatic consequences and may die before reaching the hospital.  Many in which survive but receive inadequate health care (often because in countries vast in landmines, rural areas do not have very many hospitals, schools ect. due to the vastness of the landmines mines) , are often casted away due to their physical disabilities, receive very little future or few future prospects and are often perceived as a burden to their families.  Children often effected by landmines, commonly lose their use of sight or hearing, lose limbs such as legs, arms, fingers ect., suffer from phycological trauma and have severe health consequences.  Not only do land mines devastate the lives of children as they themselves experience the hostile weapon,   but when their Mothers and Fathers are affected by a land mine related incident it continues to devastate the lives of many children.   Not only are children and adults commonly affected by landmines but so are animals in it's presence.
